Thoughts on Votto Press Conference

Some very interesting comments from Reds owner Bob Castellini during Joey Votto's contract extension press conference.  You can check them out here.  The most pointed comments from Mr. Castellini was that Votto's new deal would not preclude the team from trying to workout an extension with second baseman Brandon Phillips or manager Dusty Baker.  Both are in the final year of their current contracts.

You can read more of Votto's comments to reporters here, but what Votto said helped him make the decision to sign long-term was that he liked Cincinnati.  He liked his teammates, the people he works for and the city itself.  Whether he lives up to this contract is a chapter history has yet to write, but what is likely is Votto will represent the Reds and the city of Cincinnati with class and integrity.
