First Week Omissions

As I write this, it looks like the Reds are going to go down in flames to Washington 2-0 on this day.  Once again Mat Latos has yet to dominate an opponent while his Nationals counterpart Gio Gonzalez showed he was worth the prospect-price Washington paid in trading for the left-hander.  I'm sure it'll be said Latos made one bad pitch to Adam LaRoche, but it was Latos' inability to command the strike zone in the 5th inning that led to the 2-run single from the Nationals first baseman.  But I digress.

Some quick omissions from my last post.  I didn't mean to overlook the start to the season short stop Zack Cozart is having.  The youngster has looked terrific not just offensively (.455 avg) but defensively as well.  He made a terrific play in the 5th vs Washington Thursday, when with the bases loaded, he charged a high chopper and quickly threw home for the force out.  The kid didn't hesitate, knowing it was the pitcher running to the plate.  Speaking of defense, it's been one of the saving graces for Reds pitchers.  As a team they've made just two errors through 7 games.  That's good for 3rd in all the Major Leagues and 2nd in the National League, just a hair behind the Dodgers (.992 fielding percentage to the Reds .991).

So those are some positives I didn't mean to overlook.  Ones that need to continue as the club searches for its offense and consistency from its starters.
