It was just one game, and a forgettable one at that 6-2 loss to Philly, but it was good to see Joey Votto back in the Reds lineup. He missed 50 games with a knee injury, and hitting Roy Halladay can be tough enough when you're in a groove, but your first day back off the disabled list? Please! And yet #19 banged out 2 hits and a walk. Impressive.
It will be interesting to see how this offense takes shape over the last month of the season with Votto back and Brandon Phillips (for the moment) re-inserted into the leadoff spot. How potent it is will depend on how well Ryan Ludwick, Jay Bruce, Scott Rolen and --on occasion--Todd Frazier continue to swing the bats.
Despite losing to Philadelphia, the Reds are still 8 1/2 up on the Cardinals and the magic number to clinch the NL Central Division is 17. Looks to be a fun ride into October.
